In the animal kingdom, a big fish challenging a smaller fish is a classic example of David and Goliath. The big fish usually wins, but not always. In fact, there are some pretty big fish out there that have been bested by much smaller fish. Here are a few examples:
In 2012, a 10-pound bass was caught off the coast of Japan that had a 4-inch fish lodged in its throat. The smaller fish was still alive and wriggling when it was pulled out!
In 2006, a 10-foot-long tiger shark was caught off the coast of Australia with a 2-foot-long great white shark lodged in its belly. It’s believed that the great white shark had attacked the tiger shark from below and gotten stuck.
In 2003, a 12-foot-long, 1,000-pound tuna was caught off the coast of New Zealand with a 6-inch-long eel lodged in its throat. The eel was still alive when it was pulled out!
While it’s not common, there are definitely some big fish out there that have been bested by smaller fish. So, if you’re ever feeling like a big fish in a small pond, just remember that even the big fish get challenged sometimes.
